Katrina Russell of Olympic Peninsula Kidney Centers was honored with the 2009 NRAA Mark Zawiski Award

Recognized as a Valuable, Knowledgeable Advocate for the ESRD Industry

Presented by NRAA during the NRAA Annual Conference in Marco Island. All NRAA members are invited to submit nominations for the Annual Award, which recognizes outstanding service to the ESRD community. The winner is selected by a committee comprised of past Zawiski award winners.

Here is an excerpt from the nomination material submitted for Katrina Russell:

...of the countless hours Katrina has volunteered for NRAA in order to further its goals and help small providers throughout the country meet the many challenges of our specialty. She has served on the board and as a member or chair of many key committees. A good example of her efforts on the members is her work as chairperson of the Quality Committee. She has been a tireless worker and cheerleader as the committee and subcommittees delved into the proposed and later the final CFC. The work product is excellent in no small part as a result of her time, efforts and oversight. It is time that Katrina is recognized for her time, energy and talents by those of us who have benefited.

Her dedication and zeal to the continuing quality of the ESRD community. Year after year, she volunteers for various committees in the dialysis community in order to improve not only patient's lives, but the people that serve them on a day by day basis. She brings her expertise closer to the end user.
Katrina is well known throughout our industry. There is nothing that I can tell you that you the committee members don't already know. To characterize Katrina reminds me of the following quote by Theodore Roosevelt...."It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly, who errs and comes up short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause; who, at the best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement; and who, at the worst, at least fails while daring with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."Katrina is in the arena with great devotion and enthusiasm, and who has embraced her failures to acquire high achievement.  I cannot not think of a more well deserving person than Katrina Russell.
